Chi Kung Retreat
21 - 28 July 2007
29 July - 05 August 2007

WHEN AND WHERE

This year the College of Chi Kung are running two retreats back to back. The venue is a converted old farmhouse called “Os Figueiros” (The Fig Trees in Occitan) in the Tarn, situated in a hamlet called Canezac, near a little town called Mirandol. Airports are 1 hour away (Rodez flying with Ryanair from Standsted) or 1 and a half hours away (Toulouse). The farmhouse is in a beautiful part of France, situated in a scenic and secluded area not far from the gorges of the river Viaur.

TUITION

The theme for the retreats are as follows:  Five Animal Alchemy for the first week and Five Element Detox with Circle Walking for the second week. There is a full programme starting with early morning practice and at regular intervals throughout the day. The week will include a day of silence and periods of directed contemplation. The venue will provide a breakfast, cooked lunch and light evening meal. The food is designed to complement the nature of the retreat and will include a 24 hours fast. Each week long retreat can be attended individually or both weeks attended as a whole depending on availability.  The first evening of each retreat on 21 & 29 July will be an introduction to the week’s program, some practice and a light evening meal.

Chi Kung is an ancient Chinese form of movement exercise that promotes the flow of Chi (vital energy) through the body. It translates as ‘energy work’ in English and comprises exercises for stretching and mobilising the body and joints, breathing techniques, slow movement exercises, static postures, special walking methods and meditation.
Chi is the body’s vital energy which Chi Kung builds up to establish a physiological and psychological harmony.
Most of the theory behind Chi Kung is common to Chinese Medicine with which it has a traditional link. Chi Kung is also associated with Taoist and Buddhist philosophies and practices.

The first week of the retreat will be led by Ged Sumner and the second week by Thalbert Allen.

Ged Sumner is a Director of the College of Chi Kung and a professional Craniosacral Therapist. He has studied with a variety of Chi Kung teachers and integrates this with his understanding and study of Meditation, Attachment Psychotherapy, Shiatsu, Chinese medicine and Craniosacral therapy approaches. He is also course director of the Living Anatomy training in London and author of the book Body Intelligence (www.bodyintelligence.com).
